Greek atmosphere at your party
With traditional instruments, mystical sounds and multilingual singing, the quartet ela ela invites your guests on a musical journey to Greece. The band brings to life the popular songs of world-famous Greek composers such as Mikis Theodorakis, Markos Vamvakaris and Vassillis Tsitsanis. Their touching interpretations are interspersed with many elements of traditional folk music, especially the legendary rembetiko. Whether on a festival stage or in your living room, ela ela will ensure an unforgettable occasion.
Rembetiko, the Greek Blues
The musical style of rembetiko originated in the 19th century in the poor quarters of the cities of Athens, Piraeus and Thessaloniki. It was originally played mainly by refugees who had been expelled from Smyrna and other places in Asia Minor to the Greek mainland. Rembetiko experienced its heyday between 1930 and 1950 and then developed into one of the most popular musical forms in Greece. The song lyrics deal with the everyday concerns and experiences of ordinary people. Rembetiko is therefore also called the Greek blues.
The band ela ela
Born in Greece, Akis Savas discovered his love for Greek music and the stringed instrument bouzouki at the age of 18. In the following years, he performed with various Greek groups and musicians and founded the duo Akis & Jorgos with his brother Jorgos Savas, which was soon considered a successful duo in the Bernese music scene around the renowned Mahogany Hall. Under the band name "dilimma", Akis and Jorgos performed with up to eight musicians on various stages in Bern, Zurich and Athens. At the beginning of the new millennium "dilimma" became "ela ela". In 2006 the album "to proto - unplugged" was released. Akis (bouzouki, vocals) and Jorgos (guitar, vocals) form the core of ela ela. The formation is currently completed by Sakis Mokalis (accordion) and Vincent Zurkinden (bass, vocals).
