A different kind of tradition
Alphorn goes international! When the three ladies from Canada, Japan and Wales blow the alphorn, they delight every audience with their refreshing interpretations of traditional Swiss music. The chance meeting of the three at the Zurich University of the Arts quickly developed into a professional alphorn trio that regularly performs throughout the country and will also spoil your guests with traditional and jazzy sounds.
The professional musicians
The Welsh musician Annette Cox discovered her love for horn music in her tender childhood. In her youth she already played the solo horn in the Welsh National Youth Orchestra. She played in various orchestras in Great Britain and during her studies in Zurich in the local opera orchestra. In addition, Annette recently had the pleasure of playing the solo horn at the Bulgarian State Opera.
The Japanese Yui Yukutake, who comes from the tiny island of Takashima, began playing the French horn at an early age and studied at the Hochschule für Musik in Tokyo. In 2014 she came to Zurich to continue her studies at the Hochschule der Künste and got to know the alphorn. She has played in orchestras and has taken part in several chamber ensembles. Yui has had numerous performances as a soloist in Japan.
Carlie Bigelow, a Canadian born in Toronto, began playing the horn at the age of eleven. She studied music in Toronto and had the privilege of playing with "Canadian Brass". She was also a member of the "Royal Regiment of Canada Military Band". Carlie studied orchestral music in Zurich. She currently plays the solo horn at the Stara Zagora State Opera in Bulgaria.
