They are three musicians from Bern who describe themselves as “amateur Tyroleans”: Die Rampenhirsche. With their mix of polka, party hits, après-ski tunes, and reimagined Swiss songs, they get every audience dancing and swaying—whether at an Oktoberfest, a private party, a Christmas dinner, or a ski festival.

The Band

The band came together almost by chance: At a wedding reception at 3 a.m., Sandro Santschi pulled out his Styrian accordion and Daniel Flückiger his baritone, and together they played along to a polka. That impromptu concert sparked the idea of forming an amateur Tyrolean band. Later, Daniel Palma joined the group, providing the rhythm with his “devil’s fiddle.” The Rampenhirsche combine Bernese warmth with Tyrolean exuberance.

The Musicians

Sandro Santschi plays the Styrian harmonica, known in the Tyrolean dialect as a “Ziach” (“Ziachorgl,” accordion). Once he pulls out his instrument, there’s no stopping him, and he loves to play Tyrolean polkas, Bavarian tunes, and Landler dances.

Daniel Flückiger has years of experience with brass band music and plays the “Oberkrainer baritone” with the Rampenhirschen, providing the bass foundation for the band’s music.

The “Teufelsgeige” (also known as a “Bumbass” or “Bettelgeige”) is a rhythm instrument played by Daniel Palma. This rustic instrument is handcrafted by bandmate Daniel Flückiger.
